Introducing Kalkaska Chiropractor
Dr. Kareen Oosterhart

The Chiropractor To See In Kalkaska
People often ask me why I am a chiropractor and not a “real doctor”.

I just chuckle and say I don’t do blood or any other body fluids very well. Seriously though I always knew that my desire in life was to help people live healthy lives, and I just couldn’t see how allopathic medicine was achieving health in my friends and families lives. I have been under chiropractic care since I was eight years old, my father is a chiropractor and I have seen so many lives changed through his care. I just couldn’t see doing anything else but helping people by teaching them about how their bodies function better through chiropractic care.

Both of my children Kendra and Jared have been under chiropractic care since birth and my husband and I are so thankful for that. The main reason being their health, where most parents go through colic, fevers, earaches, flu, colds and other illness we can count on one hand the amount of colds they have had and neither has ever had an ear infection. Kendra is now in her twenties and has only been on antibiotics twice her whole life once for a broken finger (to the bone), and Jared once for a reaction to mold that created a massive sinus infection (infections close to the brain require assistance). I am unable to fathom how different our lives would be without chiropractic care, I am also unwilling to turn back the clock and find out.

My goal was to be a chiropractor as soon as possible after high school graduation, that didn’t happen as planned. It was 12 years later that I began my chiropractic education at Palmer College of Chiropractic.

I have currently been providing chiropractic care to the folks of Kalkaska and surrounding communities for 10 years. It has been such an honor to come home and do what I had hoped to do, save lives and help folks make better health choices for themselves and their families.

Meet the Village Chiropractic Staff

Cassie Newell
Cassie J. Newell-Chiropractic Assistant

Hi! I’m Cassie. I’ve worked here at Village Chiropractic for 5 years now and I really enjoy what I do. I am the main insurance biller and also the office manager. When I’m not working I enjoy spending time with my husband Dan, children Hunter and Hannah, and our families. We love being in the great outdoors; hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and camping. Before coming to work here I had never been adjusted. I really didn’t think I needed it, my back didn’t hurt! Now I realize that yes I do need to get adjusted and everyone should get checked for subluxations. My children have been getting adjusted since the day they were born and I see a difference. I feel so blessed to have chiropractic in my life. I have learned so much from this job that has saved my life, and my families life. I wish that everyone could and would understand chiropractic, because if you truly understand it, it makes so much sense. To go to the root of the problem without covering it up with drugs or surgery and trust in your self healing body and the intelligence that created it. God Bless!

Samantha Durga - Massage Therapist

HI! My name is Samantha! I am a certified Massage Therapist and a graduate of Baker College of Cadillac.  I absolutely love being a massage therapist and having the chance to help people improve and innately rebuild their health! I am not one for bodily fluids or needles so massage therapy is a great way for me to be able to help people and be hands on encouraging with my work.  Along with the massage I am also certified to do prenatal and postnatal massage. I also do hot stone therapy and ear candling. I love being in a field that allows me to continuously improve and learn new things that will be beneficial to the folks who come to see me. Massage is great for relieving restrictions in muscles and surrounding connective tissue while reducing stress, fluid retention, and pain and stiffness.  The best part, however, is that anyone, young, old, male or female, can receive massage! The thing I am looking forward to the most as I become a part of Village Chiropractic is being able to offer a service that will not only complement the Chiropractic services offered by Dr. Kareen,  but will give a new way for people to improve their health and self awareness.  When I am not working, I love spending time with my husband Shane and our two dogs, Balto and Cher. We enjoy being out in nature and soaking in its glow!  I look forward to meeting all of you and I hope to get a chance to work with you individually! God Bless!

Samantha!
